Superheroes are real. Not the kind that wear capes and have the ability to do things like shoot fire from their eyes and fly through the air with lightning speed. It would be cool and a little bit scary to see that in real life instead of just on tv, right? I mean, what would you do if you were walking down the street and somebody flew past you? I would run so fast people would probably think I had super powers too!
The kind of superheroes that I’m talking about are ordinary people, just like you and I. Ordinary people who do extraordinary things. People who inspire us by the way that they live their lives. People who endure hard times but don’t let it break them. People who have a great impact on the world by influencing those around them, often in small ways that most people don’t even notice. These are real life super heroes.
One characteristic of superheroes is strength. You can hardly watch a movie about a super hero without seeing them lift cars and other heavy things that would be impossible for the rest of us to lift. They don’t abuse their strength by using it to hurt others, even when they have been bullied or threatened by others who don’t know why they really are. They help. Our real life superheroes show strength in their everyday lives, especially during hard times.
Another characteristic of superheroes is courage. They aren’t afraid of their enemies. They defend and protect what they love, and stand up for what is right. Does this remind you of someone you know?
Lastly, superheroes are confident in their identity. They know who they are. They could be really arrogant because they have special abilities, but instead they remain humble. They work ordinary jobs, act like ordinary people, even though they know they’re unique. They don’t let anyone or anything convince them that they’re insignificant.
All around you there are real life super heroes. Who do you admire because of their strength, courage, and confidence? Who inspires you by the way that they live, and the way that they treat others? They could be your parents, a teacher, a friend, a mentor, or your coach. They could be famous people who you will never know personally.
Think about it. Learn from them. Use what they teach you to grow, and then you’ll find that you’re a superhero in someone else’s eyes. Your little sister, your friend, and others who may never say anything to you but are watching you from a distance.
Think about it.
