Hey girl! Do you have a journal or diary? If not, here are 7 good reasons to start one. I hope you like them. On some of the new blog posts, you’ll see journal prompts too. Alright, let’s get started.
It Can Be Fun
Your journal is what you make it. In fact, you can have several types of journals. You can have one just for goals, one for your thoughts, one for the things you’re thankful for, one with your favorite things like movies, music, and more. You can even be creative with your journals by adding pictures and videos (if you have an online journal), and making it like a scrapbook.
It’s a Way to Chronicle Your Life
Having a journal is a great way to capture the highs and lows of your everyday life. After some time has passed by and you pick up an old journal and read it, it’s like reading your life story. Every time you write, it’s like capturing a new memory.
It’s A Good Way to Get Your Feelings Out
Are you mad about something? Is there something that’s really on your heart? Write it out. Your journal is a great secret keeper. Writing in a journal is therapeutic – meaning it helps you feel better. Try it sometime. It really works. Just write exactly what you feel. If you’re poetic, try writing a poem. If you’re afraid that someone might read what you wrote, just tear it up afterwards or get a journal with a lock on it.
It Helps You Organize Your Thoughts
Sometimes when you have a million thoughts racing around in your head it’s hard to think straight. When you take the time to write out everything, it helps you to think more clearly, which helps you to make better plans and decisions. Let’s say you’re trying to make a big decision, like trying out for the volleyball team. You can write out the pros and the cons and then compare them, so you’ll know the best thing to do. You can also write to-do lists in your journal to help you as you try to accomplish your goals.
You Get to Know Yourself Better
There’s just something about writing down your thoughts, plans, or goals and then sitting down and reading them afterwards. You learn more about yourself as you take time to explore what you’ve written. Your personality comes out in your writings, as well as your hopes and dreams, your values, and the things that capture your heart the most. It’s like looking in the mirror in a different way.
It’s Something Just for You
You don’t have to show your journal to anyone, unless you want to. Sometimes we vent, share our goals and innermost thoughts on social media for the world to see, and that’s not always the best place for that. It’s like putting your heart out on a stage. Your online friends can’t always handle the deepest parts of you. A journal is the perfect place for that, and it’s for your eyes only so you don’t have to worry about who likes it, or what other people think about it.
Most of us are glued to our phones 24/7. It’s hard to step away when your whole life is pretty much on your phone. Journaling is a good way to come aside from the noise and busyness of your everyday life. Finding a quiet space to relax with a tasty snack or cold drink, maybe some good music, your journal, and just 15 minutes of your day can invite some much needed peace and rest into your life.
So, if you don’t have a journal yet, why not start one? There are so many pretty journals out there in the store who are looking for a new home and just aching for their pages to be filled. Won’t you bring one into your home today? LOL Or, you can use a simple notebook if you like, or an online diary or app that only you have the password to. Some people enjoy journaling by recording videos or audio recordings too. How cool is that?
Once you have your journal, in case you don’t know what to start with, here are a few ideas.
Write about your day.
What are some of your happiest memories?
What are your hopes for the future?
Who are some of your best friends? Why is their friendship important to you?
Thanks for reading. Happy journaling!
