It’s the most wonderful time of the year – again! A time to slow down and unwind a little bit, and enjoy your family and friends as we celebrate the birth of Jesus. A big part of this amazing time is gift giving. Stores are filled with people who are searching for the perfect gift for those on their “nice” list.
You may be too young to work, or maybe your allowance simply isn’t enough, or maybe you need to spend your money on other things right now so you can’t really shower your friends and family with presents the way you really want to. Well, here’s a few ideas for gift giving that cost little to no money at all. You don’t necessarily need money to show love – all you need is desire, creativity, and a sprinkle of imagination! That sounds a little Disney-ish huh?
Alright, here we go….
1. | Make Your Own Card
Handmade cards are really special and add a personal touch that’s unique. Grab a few materials and get to work. You can also find free printable cards online and templates to use. Pinterest is filled with so many ideas for making your own card, especially for Christmas.
2. | Spend Quality Time
Some people feel the most loved when you spend time with them. Some people would actually prefer quality time over receiving a gift. Offer to spend a whole day with your loved one. Plan a movie night at your house. Invite them for a walk in the park, game night, or another fun activity that you know they enjoy.
This works especially well for your parents, who long to spend one-on-one time with you now that you’re getting older and aren’t as dependent on them – and, you don’t have to spend any money unless you want to.
3. | Make a Collage or Slideshow
Want to show your best friend or loved one how much you care? Grab all of the photos and videos that you have and create a collage or a video slideshow of your fun times together. It’s totally free! Seeing a collection of your memorable moments together is enough to put a big smile on your loved ones face.
4. | Offer to Help
Another way to give a free gift is to offer to provide something that someone needs. Offer to babysit for your aunt and uncle so that they can have a date night. Help your friend decorate her room. Cook dinner for your family so that your mom can have a break. Help your teacher with some much needed office work. There are so many things you can do.
5. | Put Your Creativity to Work
A perfect way to give to others is to use the gifts that are inside of you to bless them. Do you sing? Write a song just for them and serenade them. Of course if you sound like a wounded cat maybe you should try something else. Write them a handwritten letter or a poem. Bake them a cake. Cook their favorite meal. Draw a picture. Dance for them. Do a skit. Give them a free makeover. Make a homemade sugar scrub. Have fun with it, and be creative!
6. | Do A Gift Swap
Get a bunch of your friends together and have a gift swap party where each of you bring something of your own to swap with someone else. You can give anything you think they’ll love, as long as it’s in good condition. Things like books, clothes, shoes, and purses are all great ideas. It’s fun, and once again – it’s free! Plus, you’ll get to spend some time with your girls.
7. | Re-Gift Something
Most of us have things sitting around the house that we’ve never used. There are clothes and shoes we have with the tags still on them that we swear we’ll wear one day but we never do, along with candles, picture frames, and other unused items. Why not take those reindeer Christmas socks that you got for Christmas last year but never wore and wrap them up and give them away? After all, you’re not using them, so maybe you can give them to someone who will. Make sure your gift is in good condition though. Oh, and try not to give it to the person who gave it to you. That wouldn’t end well.
Whether you have money or not, you can still show Christmas love to those around you. I hope all of you have a very Merry Christmas and enjoy this beautiful season with your family and friends.
