I recently met an amazingly talented teen blogger named Ava. Her blog (Elysian Artiste) is filled with fun stories, original artistic creations, and poetry. I am so excited to interview her and introduce her to you! I hope that you will take some time out and explore her blog posts as well.
Thank you so much for letting me interview you! Tell us more about Elysian Artiste. Where did the name come from?
I love exotic sounding words and I stumbled across the word Elysian. Elysian means Inspired, and I am Inspired By Jesus Christ, he is the one that gives me all of my creativity! I Also am Inspired by my family and artists and writers and people that I see going outside the box and changing the world. So I chose the name Elysian Artiste. because that is who I am, an inspired Artist!
That’s awesome, and it truly shows on your blog posts. When I read “10 Reasons Why You Should Smile More Often” I was really encouraged. Smiling is such a simple act but also very powerful. What was the inspiration behind that post?
I don’t really know what the true inspiration was, I just really wanted to encourage and inspire others. When I wrote the post, I had mixed emotions and I just wanted to tell the world that smiling can change the world and someone’s life, so instead of focusing on the worst that can happen, spend your life smiling and being thankful, and spend the most time you can with your loved ones. And just because you are smiling, doesn’t mean that everything is perfect, it’s just showing that you are thankful for God has done for you. 🙂
That’s so true! It’s easy to focus on the worst, but when you smile it helps to change your attitude, and helps you to be more thankful for the things that are going right. Is there any exciting news you’d like to share with your blog followers for this next year?
Well, I am going to be hosting a few giveaways this year and I may be hosting some photography contests.
I’ve been getting into filmmaking and I may post a few of my short films! I am not sure about everything that I will do this year but I am really excited!
That’s wonderful. I can’t wait to see your films.
What is your favorite thing to write, and why?
My favorite thing to write is free verse poetry because I feel so free and I feel like I can express my emotions clearly. When I write poetry, I feel like a bird that has escaped from its cage and is flying in the air singing sweet melodies.
Your poetry is unique. Writing is so freeing and refreshing. I’ve started adding journal prompts to some of my posts, because when you write it helps you to express your feelings in a powerful way.
In addition to writing, you’re also a talented artist. I love your drawings by the way! How did you learn how to draw, and what programs do you use for graphic design?
Thank you very much! For my digital art, I use this application on my iPad mini called Procreate. It is a very amazing art app and it uber easy to use. For my graphic design, I use Canva but sometimes I use Adobe spark.
Canva is simple yet very professional, I use the free version of Canva, but there is a paid version that is more efficient for business owners.
Yeah, Canva is my new best friend! I usually use Photoshop but Canva makes it so easy!
How do you balance writing and art with your school and other hobbies?
Since I am homeschooled, it is easier for me to write, but as I am getting older and I have a few more responsibilities I don’t always have the time to blog. I usually strive to write at least one post a week and if I can, I try to write three posts a week. I try not to let blogging come first, but sometimes I get a little bit excited and I focus more on blogging, then spending more time with my family. A routine that I am going to try this year is writing a long blog post every two weeks and on and every other week I will write three short blog posts. That way I won’t be writing long posts every day, every week, and so far it is working well for me.
It’s great that you have a plan so that you can also focus on school, family, and the things that are important to you.
What advice do you have for other teen girls out there who would like to start a blog? Not only a blog, but whatever it is that they’re dreaming of doing?
My advice is to keep trying, even when the going gets tough. Don’t be so hard on yourself, that just makes it harder for you to do your best. No matter what you are doing, be yourself and don’t be afraid to shine and stay positive! And remember you’re not on your own, you can do all things through Christ. So go for your dreams! Shoot for the stars!
I love it!
Your blog is full of encouragement and motivation for others. As a teen girl, what motivates and encourages you?
I get most of my motivation from my parents, they are amazing and I love them very much! I also get inspiration from the amazing world that God has created, how plants and trees strive and snow.
How do you keep yourself grounded and focused?
I tend to get distracted by a lot of my thoughts, but when I go outside or just look outside, my cluttered mind feels uncluttered. When I take photography I focus in on all the small things, so after I take the photographs my mind is set and I just focus on everything. I find it hard to live differently, I have a few restrictions and it can be easy to feel like I am the odd one out. It really helps when I pray and read my bible, and after I do that if I draw or write a poem.
I really love that you know how to step away from it all and take some time to breathe. We all need that, and sometimes as we get older and busier, we forget….but it’s soooo important. Sometimes we get so busy that we forget to do the things we love. We forget to spend time with God and ourselves. That’s what fills us up.
Who are your role models and mentors, and how have they helped you?
My parents are my biggest role models, whenever I need them they are there for me and they always encourage me and teach me how to be the best me. They always allow me to chase my dreams and they help me shoot for the stars.
I’m sure your parents are remarkable, and the impact they have on you is so evident. What is your favorite blog post you’ve shared, and why?
My favorite post is “Ten Reasons Why You Should Smile More Often” because I was able to inspire and encourage my family members and so many other people, and when I make other people happy, I feel amazing! I really want to spend this whole year of 2018 smiling and making others smile too, and even though we face loss and tragedy, there is still hope, and a smile is the best way to show that! 😃
Wow, you are so amazing. You have a heart full of inspiration and I’m glad you’re sharing it with the world. It has truly been a pleasure interviewing you. I’m excited to see what’s next for Elysian Artiste!
And you….yes, you….if you haven’t read her blog yet, take a look, and have a GREAT day!
